This drill bit will last a long time. Each bit can be professionally sharpened once, but then it should be replaced in order to maintain the precision profile of the dowels.

I've been using Miller Dowels for the last 5 years and never had to sharpen a bit. I've drilled 1000s of holes in soft and hardwoods including oak, ash, and walnut with ease. They only time I need to replace a bit is when I ruin a bit by hitting on a nail or screw.
