Natural Burial Shroud

A Contemporary Take on a Very Old Tradition

For thousands of years people around the world have prepared their dead and lay them to rest in burial shrouds. The burial shroud is not unique to any one religion, ethnicity, or continent.

This contemporary rendition adds handles, tie straps for closure, and a slot for a wooden slat (optional) to insert along the back. These features make transport and handling of the shrouded body a little easier in the contemporary natural burial cemetery.

This burial shroud has been used by families of many faiths including Christian, Orthodox, Muslim, and Bahai in burial in traditional and natural burial cemeteries as well as cremation.

Use as A Simple Casket Liner

Burial shrouds have been used both with, and without, caskets and/or outer burial containers. Burial requirements are specified by cemeteries. While there are a growing number of natural burial cemeteries that do not require caskets or outer burial containers (i.e. burial vaults) check with your local cemetery before making arrangements.

This shroud is designed with a double breasted closure that will accommodate adult persons up to 6 feet 2 inches tall and 300 lbs.
